     After four years, I have decided to redesign the 'Map History' site
     <http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/>.  The main reason for this is to allow
     the site to be incorporated into the World Wide Web - Virtual Library.

     This message has two purposes:

     1. Please take a look at the draft of the proosed new 'front' page:

          <http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/table6.html>.

     This combines the former Welcome page and Main Menu.  Look also at a
     sample of one of the ordinary pages:

          <http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/news2.html>.

     Please let me have any comments.  There is still time to make changes
     before I apply that design to all 80 or so pages.

     2. Can anyone help with a technical question?  I wish to have in the top
     right corner a logo - as appropriate, a new 'Map History' one, or that for
     Imago Mundi, or that for the J B Harley Research Fellowships. I thought I
     could *scan* in each design and turn it into a gif file. Peter van der
     Krogt has corrected me on this, pointing out that I need to *digitise* the
     images, if I am to get a clear picture.  Do I have to pay someone to do
     that for me?  Can anyone offer advice?
