GPO announced at ALA Midwinter that only the 50 core titles will be
produced and distributed in paper after October 1
http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fdlp/pubs/estitles.html). There's no
mention of maps, either way, in what I've read. My administration wants
me to write up some thoughts on how we will be dealing with no paper
maps from GPO. Do we need a clarification from GPO? Do they mean maps
too? As long as USGS keeps printing topos, (which I thought they
announced they would after they announced the National Map), will GPO
still distribute? Or will we have to go back to separate depository
arrangements with each agency for hard copy as long as there still is a
hard copy? I haven't seen anything on MAPS-L about this GPO announcement
or re-action to it. The AALL published a Washington Affairs Action Alert
on Jan. 26, 2005
(http://www.ll.georgetown.edu/aallwash/aa01262005.html). What are we all
doing? This is sort of already a topic for the "Map and Geographic
Information C!
ollections in Transition" conference in May at LC, but do we need to
inquire/re-act before then?

Thanks, Arlyn
