Hi Mark and everyone,

I've been researching OSS maps in the National Archives for the last three
Summers and I haven't heard of a project to scan the OSS maps from the
Archives staff or anyone else.

Does Duke have a large number of OSS maps? Many university map libraries
have a scattering of examples out of the 6139 unique maps in the National
Archives. There are an additional 1870 OSS maps that appear on the OSS
Map Request Record but are missing from the Archives. The Map Request
Record lists when a map was requested, the title (often incomplete) who
requested it, and what cartographers worked on it.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about OSS maps.

Is anyone familiar with any systematic project ongoing or in the works
to scan World War II vintage OSS maps? Any of these already online?

We're looking for a quick "test" digitization project here, and,
although these aren't exactly high-use maps, many are at least
interesting historical curiosities. Many are page size, like their CIA
descendants, and would work as a test project for a 12x17 inch scanner
we have. We might not tackle the larger ones yet. I just don't want to
duplicate the work of others.

Thanks,
        Mark
