Hello All

Chris is on the right track.  This was a Army Air Corp training area in
WWII
and is part of the old Branan Field site but is not connected directly
to
Cecil Naval Air Station.  Cecil Field has been mostly shut down but
there
are support planes there for the aircraft carriers.  Previously there
were
fighter wings stationed there.

 You will notice it is fenced in and restricted.   It is owned by Gulf
Stream Turchin Inc. as is the buffer area around it and between it and
Cecil
Field.  My current source believes it has something to do with early
warning
and weather devices.  I have been told it was used for precision
parachute
drops, and even for mock fighter and bomb attacks.   This I can not
verify.
My source is trying to find out what this company does as we can't field
anything on any web search. The area is slightly elevated and there are
stories that it is not natural, was filled it, was a rocket launch site
etc.
I have several good sources in the area and will ask them when they
return
from the field.
Stay tuned and we will solve the mystery.

It is apparently related to Cecil Naval Air Station just northwest and a
student that works with me, who used to live nearby tells me that the
air station is no longer used. Possibly the octagonal feature is a
series of abandoned airstrips.
