I've cataloged a number of older maps that were mounted on linen and
this describes it pretty well. there is a gloss to the material after
the map is mounted on it.

as for the vellum, we had a lot of those too. draftsmen, surveyors, and
others used it a lot for working maps and we had these drafts in the
collection. the minor issue in description of course is that the
original "vellum" material (not the modern paper) was also used for maps
long ago so calling something vellum today without a qualifier could be
confusing if anyone remembers the old stuff exists (a lot of people
don't even know what modern vellum is--often calling it "tracing paper"
instead).

I am not at my notes today but know that we described these materials as
we went.

for mounted on linen, that is easy to handle in description.
