Subject: RE: MAPS-L: question regarding Joint Operational Graphics (JOG)
maps
Date: Tue, 7 Jun 2005
From: "McEathron, Scott R" <[log in to unmask]>

She does not really need to address copyrights for us to know the answer
of that question--but I think she did it anyway in point #2. We are
fortunate that the JOG publications produced by the United States NGA
are both in the public domain--and at least those being offered for sale
via the USGS--free of the old use restrictions. Of course those
produced by Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, etc. may not be.

I do not really need a answer to my original question. I forwarded Ms.
Ford's answer to my question to the list for the benefit of anyone else
that makes use of these maps for their patrons.

The next question is: shall we make the tiff files or the georeferenced
images of these maps available to all via the internet? Any interest?

Hi,

I know that many others have already chimed in. In reading this e-mail,
it
appears to me that Meri Ford from NGA appears to be addressing
classification/security issues ONLY. This e-mail does not necessarily
address any copyright issues. Public Domain and free access mean
different
things to an information security officer and a copyright lawyer.
