The program is now complete for the Society for the History of
Discoveries Annual Meeting to be held in Portland Oregon from September
7-9, 2006. The paper session listing may be found on the SHD website at

The meeting is open to those who are not members of the Society, but who
are interested in maps, exploration and discoveries.* The deadline
(postmarked by AUGUST 1) is approaching for discounted registration* for
the annual meeting. The registration form is downloadable at

A few persons have paid too much for registration. If you are an SHD
member, and bringing an accompanying person, the lower SHD price applies
for both of you. If you are not an SHD member, you can join (see
www.sochistdisc.org <http://www.sochistdisc.org/>) and take advantage of
lower pricing.

Seating is available on both of the optional *PRE- and POST TOURS*.
Register now so you will not be left out. We can take only 54 persons on
each of the tours. Information about the tours is at

*Hotel bookings* must be made by YOU. Hotel information is at

. The planning committee was able to secure a finite block of rooms, and
the reservations at the discounted prices are available as long as room
exists within that number of rooms, PLUS if reservations are made by the
dates agreed with the hotels. For the HILTON, the deadline is Tuesday
August 8. For the Heathman Hotel, the deadline is Friday, August 4.
Those are the last days the hotels are required to honor the lower
rates, and with the assumption that rooms are still available. DO NOT BE
DISAPPOINTED. Reserve NOW.
