Subject: RE: MAPS-L: IFLA Survey on Paper Maps

This information looks very similar to that collected recently for the US Guide to Map Resources (Chris Thirty, editor). Perhaps you could request the recently collected data from them and save both yourself and us some effort. Hope this suggestion helps.

Subject: IFLA Survey on Paper Maps
Date: Wed, 25 May 2005 13:22:47 -0400
From: "David McQuillan"

Following the IFLA Workshop on Paper Maps at the Library of Congress,
May 11, 2005, this survey was distributed. We would like it to have as
wide a distribution as possible. The IFLA Standing Committee for
Geography and Map Libraries will use the data collected to publish
guidelines for the handling of paper maps in libraries. This is your
chance to be heard. Surveys are due in by August 1, 2005. If you don't
submit comments, we may miss that important point you think everyone
should know. Please feel free to add categories and make as many
additional comments as you like. We hope to publish the guidelines
early in 2006.

We already have many good ideas about cooperation, data clearinghouses,
and justifications for retention and expansion of paper collections.

Send surveys to the e-mail address at the bottom of the form or in
paper to me.

Thank you all for assisting in this process.
