Dear Colleagues,

Thanks to Colleen Cahill, the schedule of ALA-MAGERT meetings and
programs can be found at the following website:
http://www.ala.org/ala/magert/meetingsa/ann2007.htm

As always, committee meetings, discussion groups, and programs are open
to all conference registrants. However, if you plan on attending the
tour/reception at the U.S. Navel Observatory Library, please inform me
by Friday, June 1, 2007 (if you have not done so already).

The following are more detailed descriptions of the two programs:

Sunday, June 24, 2007 1:30--3:30pm
Program I: Library Security for Maps, WCC-Room 145 B
Recent map thefts reveal the vulnerability of cartographic materials in
libraries. All libraries, from small libraries to large research
institutions, need to take action to discourage map thefts. Learn
strategies to communicate to your library administration and cooperate
with other units to increase security. A panel of experts, led by David
Cobb (Map Librarian, Harvard), will discuss how to: identify valuable
cartographic resources; inventory, mark, and catalog the collection;
evaluate the facilities, staff, and security measures; define policies
and procedures for patron access; and report thefts.

Monday, June 25, 2007 1:30--3:30 pm
Program II: Two Hundred Years of the Coast Survey, MET-Salon A/B
This program will explore the history and charting of the U.S. Coast and
Geodetic Survey and other legacy agencies of the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Speakers: Janice Beattie, Director,
NOAA Central Library; John Cloud, Historian/Geographer, NOAA Central
Library

Sincerely,
