Darlene - Take a look at the USGS Map Booklet Online Edition:

[NOTE TEXT WRAP WHEN ENTERING URL]
http://erg.usgs.gov/isb/pubs/booklets/usgsmaps/usgsmaps.html#Topographic%20M
aps

According to this page it takes about 57,000 maps to cover the lower 48,
Hawaii & territories, with another (approximately) 3000 15' maps covering
Alaska. It doesn't say when all of the 7.5' mapping was completed, but you
might find that elsewhere on the USGS site: http://www.usgs.gov/.

Hi!!

I am speaking to a group next week about material in our Map Collection.

I was trying to verify some info that I thought I had read on this list ---

that there are 55, 000 --- 7.5 minute maps

and that USGS completed mapping the entire US at this scale in the last
5 to 7 years????

How far off is my memory??

Called USGS and they didn't seem to have this info at their finger tips..

thought someone on the list might.

Thanks
