Subject: MAPS-L: Degree symbol in Connexion in a 500 note

Thank you to all that replied to my inquiry about using Connexion to
make a degree symbol in a 500 note field.

From the diacritics menu in the Connexion software ... there is an
actual symbol for the degree symbol. This symbol works for me in the 255
field but not in the 500 field. The superscript zero does work in the
500 field so I will use that for now.

Angie,

Are you using the superscript 0 for the degree symbol in OCLC? Is the
system your local system degree symbol or the superscript 0 from OCLC
diacritics? You should be ok if you use the superscript 0 in Connexion
diacritics box.

Angie are you talking about the miagkii znak for degrees and the tverdyi
znak for minutes that you can insert via the ALA button on the menu bar in
Connexion?

From the diacritic pull down, try using the Superscript 0. I tried it in
a 500 note, and when validating, Connexion accepted it.

RE MAPS-L: Degree symbol in Connexion in a 500 note
DA Friday, December 16, 2005
TO Maps-L
FR Angie

I catalog using OCLC Connexion and I'm trying to make a 500 note that
includes a latitude longitude coordinate - including the degree and
minute symbols. For some reason, my system is stopping me saying that
the degree symbol (from the diacritics menu) is an "invalid character -
data must be ALA characters."

Has anyone else ran into this situation and discovered a work around? I
went ahead and created the record using [degree] (in brackets) instead
of the symbol but it would be nice to get the symbol (as it appears on
the map) in the 500 note.

Just to clarify - this isn't the lat/long of the map itself -- but
instead it's a part of a string of text that I wish to include in a 500
note.

Thanks.

Angie
