Subject: Framed maps / unframes - pros and cons?

Hello everyone

Please excuse the cross-posting

We have just received a donation of over 50 framed maps - dating from
the 16th C to 19th C. They are well framed in acid-free mats. We do
not have a large collection of framed maps nor a special facility for
them. Also, at this time we are planning to move the collection to new
facilities (in the same building), so we may consider including a
special place for framed maps..

My questions are:

a) What are the pros and cons of keeping the maps in their frames
vs. de-framing and storing in mylar sleeves in map cabinets?

b) If it is recommended to keep the maps in their frames what are
the recommended storage options?. We'd be looking for something
economical.

Many thanks for your thoughts and ideas

David
