Carlos,

This problem could be solved using GIS software. It is not that difficult to do. Add GTOPO30 elevation data, DCW populated place and airport data in ArcMap and run a function called Extract Values to Points. This will give you elevation value to all the point data.

However, before this could be done you need to ask your Prof. what the definition of his city is. A city means different things to different countries. Some are based on population size and other are based on function.
