Associate Academic Librarian – Position #6506

*General Information:*

The American Geographical Society Library is one of North America’s
foremost geography and map collections. Formerly the library and map
collection of the American Geographical Society (AGS) of New York, it
was transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries in
1978. The AGS Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic librarian to
assist the many groups active in GIS related instruction and research
across the UWM campus. This full-time Academic Professional appointment
is at the Associate rank. As the incumbent builds experience at UWM
through excellent job performance, professional development and service,
s/he may qualify for continuing appointment and/or promotion to higher
ranks.

*Responsibilities:*

The Digital Spatial Data/GIS Librarian is responsible for the daily
operations of the Digital Spatial Data Clearinghouse. Responsibilities
include: providing direct, general, and specialized reference service to
digital spatial data collections; overseeing collection development,
cataloging, archiving and maintaining of digital spatial data
clearinghouse materials; working with Libraries Automation department to
keep in operational order all computer and peripheral equipment related
to the digital spatial data clearinghouse; providing digital spatial
data instruction to faculty, staff and students as requested; consulting
with Libraries staff to develop spatial data collections; and providing
backup general reference services in the AGS Library. This position
reports to the Curator of the American Geographical Society Library.

advanced, terminal degree in another relevant subject discipline; a

cartography or related field; experience with geographic information
