I just wanted to pass this message along for those of you who catalog on
OCLC and may not have seen the announcement on OCLC-Cat. Connexion
client 2.0 was released the last week of June. In addition to the
features highlighted in this announcement I did want to highlight
changes to the OCLC macrobook that may be of use to map catalogers (last
bullet in the announcement).

--The 034 macro (Generate034) was fixed and two problems were resolved.
First, single digits are now recognized correctly and should no longer
cause the problems of "freezing" that some users reported earlier this
year. Second, the macro now recognizes the degree symbol in field 255.
This means that if you use this macro to create an 034 from data in
field 255 and the degree mark is present, the macro will work
correctly. Of course this assumes the field is created according to
AACR2 and data is entered correctly. The macro will no longer work
correctly if the superscript character is used in place of the degree
symbol. If you are trying to create an 034 from a 255 with superscripts
you will have to first change the superscripts to degrees otherwise you
may get incorrect results in the 034.

--We have a new macro for field 007 called Add&Edit007. This macro is
like the guided entry for field 006. The one difference is that it
gives the name of each value so you do not have to look each one up.
This is another tool to make it easier to create and use the 007 fields.

If you have not used the OCLC macrobook macros before you may want to
check these and the others out. There is more information about these
macros in client Help (OCLC-supplied macros in Introduction to OCLC
Macro Language for Connexion client).

The following is the message Anna Sylvester, product manager for
Connexion client, posted on OCLC-Cat on June 26, 2008.

"Greetings!
Connexion client 2.0 is now available. For more detail and to download
the client, go to
_http://www.oclc.org/connexion/interface/client/enhancements/recent.htm_ .

                      # Display your toolbar on two rows
                      # Use shorter menus: Edit, Action, View and Tools
                        menus are rearranged
                      # Use Z39.50 access via the client to retrieve
bibliographic records from your local system to
create authority records or add bib records to
                        WorldCat
                      # Use RLIN21 keyboards for Arabic, Cyrillic,
                        Hebrew, and Latin scripts
                      # Use Unicode control characters for Arabic and
                        Hebrew script cataloging
                      # Use automatic switch from non-Latin to English
mode for delimiter and subfield code
                      # Use Institution records.
                      # Use New OCLC macros in the macro book OCLC.mbk

OCLC does not expect to discontinue 1.7X* until a future release of the
client is available*. You are not required to upgrade to 2.00. However,
OCLC recommends that you upgrade to 2.00 to have the most current
features available.
