*Head, Noble Science and Engineering Library*

*GENERAL INFORMATION:* Arizona State University at the Tempe campus,
seeks an individual to provide leadership and vision for the
user-focused daily operations of the Noble Science and Engineering
Library (SEL). The successful candidate will provide overall
administration for the Noble SEL in the areas of outreach, instruction,
reference, collection development and access services. S/he will assess,
plan and implement services that meet the evolving needs of science and
engineering faculty, students, researchers and staff in a growing and
diverse academic community.

The Noble Science and Engineering Library houses the University
Libraries collections for the life sciences, the physical sciences,
engineering, mathematics, industry standards, and maps. These
collections include approximately 425,000 volumes, 1,200 print and
several thousand electronic journal subscriptions, 210,000 sheet maps,
and 20,500 aerial photographs.

*THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES:* Arizona State University, University
Libraries is a leader in innovative customer service and in the strength
of its collections; it ranks in the top 40 research libraries in North
America. The Library system consists of four libraries, with independent
libraries for law and the West, Polytechnic and the Downtown campuses.
The libraries support over 60,000 full-time and part-time students and

*RESPONSIBILITIES:* Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Head, Noble
Science and Engineering Library (SEL) is responsible for: managing the
services, collections and all aspects of operations of the Noble SEL
(excluding the Maps unit); developing and implementing innovative
programs and services; establishing strong relationships with faculty,
students and researchers to plan and implement library services;
managing professional librarians and support staff; overseeing
collections and student wage budgets; contributing to the overall
management and planning of the University Libraries; assuming a
leadership role in library-wide task forces and committees and
participating professionally.

*QUALIFICATIONS:* *Required:* ALA accredited Master’s degree in
Library/Information Science. Minimum four years post MLS experience in
progressively responsible positions within an academic, research and/or
corporate library appropriate to rank. Proven administrative and
managerial skills. Knowledge of science and engineering scholarship.

*Preferred:* Undergraduate degree in science or engineering; Minimum one
year experience at a department, branch or unit head level in an
academic, research or corporate library; Experience building
relationships with colleagues external to the library. Ability to work
cooperatively with faculty, staff and students. Ability to communicate
with a diverse user population. Knowledge of digital resources and
services as they relate to science and/or engineering librarianship.
Understands the role of technology in library activities and operations.
Ability to deal constructively with conflict. Demonstrated oral, written
and interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to professional
growth and the development of library personnel.

*SALARY AND BENEFITS: *$65,000 minimum, dependent upon qualifications
and experience. Salary and rank (assistant, associate, or full) is
dependent upon level of professional preparation and experience.**
