AMIII was born 98 years ago today. Anybody who does atlases should be
grateful! ;~) Getting this in my email this morning reminds me of a
couple of things:

38 years ago tonight, I was trying to get back to the New York Thruway
from Max Yasgur's farm (50 miles from Woodstock, yet!) using my first
Rand McNalley Road Atlas in my first car. Whattaday!

and

42 years ago this today, the LC summer project folks went on the tour of
the USGS facilities at the Interior department, the first time I ever
saw maps scribed instead of drawn. I attribute this to getting me to
focus on drawing actual maps with a VERY steady hand. I never got to
scribe my own self until I got to UW in the early 1970s.
