Subject: Giant Sanborn map collection missing?

Can anyone confirm the following information?

A correspondent reports that staff at the US Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, Indiana told him their large collection (>500,000 sheets) of Sanborn Map Company fire insurance maps was transferred about ten years ago to the National Archives. The Archives reports no knowledge of them.

Could this massive transfer have occurred without mention on MAPS-L or MapHist?
