Yes, I forgot to mention that I scanned aerial photos, zoomed in on their property to the point of pixelation, and made prints for them. And like you say, they showed more detail than the maps do.

Actually, I thought the air photos would satisfy them, but they still want a topo.

About once a year we get involved as 'experts' in these kind of disputes.
Not all USGS maps show old farm roads and fence lines. So we rely on our
old air photos (USDA) in the library and plot out the recorded legal
descriptions on top. Takes a fair amount of photo interpretation experience
and a little GIS.  Thank you.
