Subject: National Map is Down

Hello,

If your library administration thinks it's OK to get rid of printed topographic maps, I have news for you. The National Map is down. In case you were wondering, Data.gov is also down, as is the USGS Publications warehouse. (Don't tell anyone, but they forgot to shut down the National Geologic Map Database.)

I just tried those sites and this is the message that I am getting:

Due to the Federal government shutdown, usgs.gov and most associated web sites are unavailable.

Only web sites necessary to protect lives and property will be maintained.

The above message is followed by a list of essential resources:

    Ecosystems
        Disease Maps
    Natural Hazards
        Earthquakes
        Volcanoes
        Erosion Hazards
        Landslide Hazards
        GeoMagnetism Program
    Water

Please see doi.gov for more shutdown information.
