Govdoc librarians! Map Librarians! Do you have an interest in GIS?
GODORT and MAGIRT have planned a discussion session on Saturday at 8:30
- 10 a.m., in the W Hotel Great Room 2BC during midwinter. Topics to be
discussed include:

What role can libraries play in managing GIS data that is
created/collected campuswide?

How are libraries providing access to American Community Survey data? To
2010 Census data? Are you downloading and storing any data locally? What
percent of librarians are allowed to install/upgrade geospatial data
themselves on their office/lab area PCs?

How are libraries "reconciling" various releases of ACS and Census data,
given changes in methodology , geographic boundaries, etc.?

Do you have suggestions for starting new GIS services in libraries, or
if you already have, what would you have done differently?

The NBII database was taken down without much warning, which didn't
provide adequate time for archiving. Could a protocol be developed to
facilitate archiving if other similar datasets and /or databases are
de-commissioned? What special considerations should be considered for
geospatial data?

Education and certification, for librarians and users involved with
geospatial/GIS data?

Come exchange ideas with our two Round Tables, we want your input on
this important topic!

Barbara Miller, chair, GODORT
Angla Lee, MAGIRT
