I've never attended the GSIS/GSA annual meeting or the Librarianship conference but I always think it looks so wonderful. I'm forwarding this from the Geonet list ...

Have a good weekend everyone!

Subject: [GEONET] "Geoscience Librarianship 101" registration now open

“Geoscience Librarianship 101” – the GSIS annual pre-conference workshop
– will take place on Saturday, October 31 in conjunction with the
GSIS/GSA Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. Registration is open to
all information professionals as well as students in library and
information studies.

Now in its tenth consecutive year, GL101 is a professional development
opportunity aimed at librarians new to the geosciences and those already
in the field who want a refresher. This year’s workshop is jointly
sponsored with the Sheridan Libraries of Johns Hopkins University.
Clara McLeod (Washington University in St. Louis) is coordinating the event.

A team of experienced geoscience librarians will cover topics in
collection development, reference, instructional services, maps, and
geographic information systems (GIS). Instructors include Amanda
Bielskas (Columbia University), Emily Wild (U.S. Geological Survey),
Hannah Winkler (Stanford University), and Linda Zellmer (Western
Illinois University). Participants will also have the opportunity to
engage in open discussion and to network with other information
professionals.

Geoscience Librarianship 101 will be held from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the
Milton S. Eisenhower Library on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins
University, 3400 North Charles Street, Baltimore.

Advance registration is required and space is limited. You do not need
to be registered for the GSA Annual Meeting to participate in GL101.
Registrations must be received by October 22. To sign up, please
provide your name, daytime contact information, and professional
(work/school) affiliation to: Clara P. McLeod, Rettner Earth &
Planetary Sciences Library, Washington University, Campus Box 1169, St.
Louis, MO 63130, telephone 314-935-4817, e-mail [log in to unmask]
