An open suggestion for early city maps outside of the U.S.:
  Any library with a good collection of travel guides, especially
the Baedecker's or Fodor's (although I am not sure how far back
Fodor's go) should be able to find street maps for a given date.
Check your card or online catalog.  [I learned this hint while
