With a small amount of financial assistance from Jack Dangermond, we
have begun the GIS Master Bibliography Project. Our goal is to create
a public-domain, abstracted bibliography which is available over the
Internet. The insertion of abstracts into the entries requires that we
receive formal permission from the publishers. Individuals may download
Master Bibliography materials but may not redistribute them unless the
abstracts are stripped off (easy to do in most bibliographic systems).

Only a small amount of material is currently available. This includes
all articles in the International Journal of Geographical Information
Systems, all papers in the Proceedings of the International Symposia on
Spatial Data Handling, and 1993 issues of GIS World and Geo Information
Systems. Shortly we will be adding materials from GIS Europe and the
new Business Geographics. As funds become available (any suggestions?)
we will add more. One project currently underway is to create a biblio-
graphy of "The Good Old Stuff" from the early days of GIS (much of which
appears to have been forgotten).

Downloading by anonymous FTP is available from BASTET.SBS.OHIO-STATE.EDU
Change to the directory "biblio" where the subdirectories "gis.refer,"
"gis.pc," and "gis.mac" exist. The ASCII forms (using the REFER codes,
e.g., %A for author) are in gis.refer. The other two files contain EndNote
library binaries.

In addition to funds, we are also looking for cooperators. Anyone interested?
