          Ms. Farrell
The river you are seeking may be the Shawanoe river, which
appears on a 1784 map of the United States by Abel Buell. The
river, located in northwestern Tennessee, is now called the
Cumberland river. If this is the river you are seeking it would
have been neccessary to travel up the Cumberland to the Ohio,
down the Ohio to the junction of the Mississippi, and then down
the Mississippi to New Orleans. Whew. Hope this helps.
