          ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL VACANCY
 
               HEAD, SPECIAL COLLECTIONS DEPT.
                    AUBURN UNIVERSITY
                    Auburn, Alabama
 
HEAD, SPECIAL COLLECTIONS DEPT: Administers personnel (3 FTE
Staff), facilities, and budgetary needs for the Special Collections
Department which houses rare/fragile materials, maps, some
artifacts, and printed materials related to Alabama and Auburn
University; coordinates the development of the twelve separate
collections housed in the department; recommends and implements
collection development policies and procedures; provides reference
service for the collections; oversees micrographics activities;
will work with other library departments to develop a library-wide
conservation plan. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS;
minimum of three years experience dealing with special, rare or
unique library materials; strong academic record; excellent
communication skills. Desired: Experience in an academic library
special collections department; graduate degree in American history
or literature; knowledge of Alabama and southern history and/or
literature; record of scholarly, professional and research
activity; supervisory experience; knowledge of library conservation
practices. Offers of employment are contingent upon verification of
eligibility for employment in the United States.  The salary
minimum is $37,000, higher with experience, with appointment as
Librarian II or III  (Assistant or Associate Professor); twelve-
month, tenure track position; participation in state teachers'
retirement (mandatory); TIAA or other additional voluntary
retirement plans available; twelve days sick leave and twenty days
annual leave per year; health/life/disability insurance benefits.
