Very informally, the UC map libraries have depended on
UCLA and to some extent UCSB (only since 1969 in the
latter case) to keep superseded vendor catalogs. We
find them to be especially useful in those cases where
vendors stop listing titles no longer available for
sale in their current catalogs. There was at one
point a general plan to catalog as collections UCLA's
extensive collection of ephermeral material; a
substantial number (?perhaps all) of the map-library
acquisitions lists were indeed cataloged.
