               SYMPOSIUM ON CARTOGRAPHIC DESIGN AND RESEARCH
 
     The SYMPOSIUM ON CARTOGRAPHIC DESIGN AND RESEARCH will be held
on the campus of the University of Ottawa, 7-8 August 1994.  The
University of Ottawa is located on the east side of the Rideau
Canal, not far from the Westin Hotel($$$) and near the downtown
core of Ottawa.  All sessions will be plenary sessions and will be
held in MONTPETIT HALL, 125 University.  The room number will be
posted at or near the main entrance.  Following the SYMPOSIUM, the
joint meeting of the Canadian Cartographic Association and the
North American Cartographic Information Society will commence on 10

                     ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE SYMPOSIUM
 
     The hotels listed below are offering special Symposium-goer's
rates and are located by name on the accompanying map.  You are
encouraged to book early and be sure to mention that you are
attending the Canadian Institute of Geomatics SYMPOSIUM ON
CARTOGRAPHIC DESIGN AND RESEARCH.  These hotels represent only a
few of the many possibilities that are available in the area, but
also represent comfortable, yet affordable accommodations in close
proximity to the University of Ottawa campus.
 
     Registrants for the SYMPOSIUM must book their accommodations
directly with the hotel of their choice.  Be sure to mention the
Canadian Institute of Geomatics for the preferred rate.
 
     The lead hotel for the SYMPOSIUM is the Ramada Hotel & Suites,
111 Cooper Street, Ottawa, Ontario K2P 2E3 -  tel. (613) 238-1331,
Fax (613) 230-2179, toll free 1-800-854-7854.  The Ramada has a
block of rooms set aside for the SYMPOSIUM at a rate of $76.00
Canadian dollars ($74.00 if more than 30 rooms are booked) per
night, single or double occupancy.  The Ramada has recently
undergone refurbishing and is located at the quiet end of Cooper
Street near the Rideau Canal.  It is but a short, pleasant walk
from the Ramada along the canal to the Laurier Bridge across the
Rideau Canal and then on to the University of Ottawa campus.    If
staying at the Ramada Hotel & Suites, please mention that you are
attending the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) SYMPOSIUM ON
CARTOGRAPHIC DESIGN AND RESEARCH.
 
     Other accommodations for which blocks of rooms have been set
aside include:
 
     1) Lord Elgin Hotel, 100 Elgin Boulevard, Ottawa, Ontario K1P
  5K8 - tel. (613) 235-3333, Fax (613) 235-3223, tool free 1-
800-267-4298; rates are $81.00 single or double occupancy.  The
Lord Elgin is also a short walk across the Laurier Bridge to the
University of Ottawa campus.
 
     2) Radisson Hotel Ottawa Centre, 100 Kent Street, Ottawa,
Ontario K1P 5R7 - tel. (613) 238-1122, Fax (613) 783-4229; rates
are $84.00 single or double occupancy.  The Radisson is a bit
further from the University of Ottawa campus, but a pleasant walk.
 
     3) University of Ottawa residences.  Single/Twin - $31/$39;
   Students: single-twin - $19.50/$34.50, breakfast - $5.00;  in
groups of ten of more - Single - $27.10, Students - $22.10,
includes breakfast.  University of Ottawa Conference/Housing

air-conditioned, if that is a concern.  The Residence Office is
