POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
 
OHIO, KENT 44242-0001. Kent State University. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR. The Department of Geography seeks to fill a tenure-track
position in ECONOMIC and/or URBAN GEOGRAPHY for either August 1994
or January 1995. Candidates should be proficient in contemporary
geographical theory and empirical methods of research. Must be
willing to teach introductory undergraduate courses, economic and
urban geography, and graduate courses in areas of specialization.
A regional specialization outside of North America is desired, but
not essential. Kent State University offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees
in Geography, and the department coordinates an interdisciplinary
undergraduate Urban Studies and Planning Program. Approximately 75
undergraduate majors and 30 full-time graduate students are in
residence. The department maintains state of the art computational,
GIS, and cartographical laboratories in support of teaching and
research. Kent State University is a Carnegie II Research Institution,
and maintains a well-stocked research library, on-line database
systems, mainframes, and super computer access. Competitive,
university-wide research and instructional grants are available for
both academic year and summer.
 
The successful candidate will be expected to teach, conduct research,
and publish in areas of specialization, as well as seek extra mural
funds in support of his/her research program. Ph.D. is required at
time of appointment.
