A late reply to Darius' request for information about early air photos.
The book he is looking for may be:

Fluckiger, Otto, 1881-1942. Die Schweiz aus der Vogelschau : 274 Abbildungen
aus der Sammlung von Walter Mittelholzer. Herausgegeben und eigeleitet von
Prof. Dr. Otto Fluckiger. 2. vermehrte Auflage. Erlenbach-Zurich, Eugen
 Rentsch, 1926. xxxxiv, 176 p., ill.

Thanks to the online catalog of the U.W. General Library System and the
retrospective conversion project of the U.W. Geography Library staff (where a
copy of the book may be found) for the ease with which it was found!

Back in 1967, I gave a paper on the history of aerial photography at an
SLA GMD meeting. It was published in the SLA GMD Bulletin, no. 69, p. 17-25.
Darius, let me know if you would like a copy. I do not remember the name
Mittelholzer from that research, but I do remember finding a lot of
information on the topic.
