Subject: Article on Coast Survey Topographic Maps

In response to Helen Jane Armstrong's question about my article on
Coast Survey Topographic maps, I have just completed the article and plan to
mail it to a journal for review within the next few days. As the article has
not been accepted for publication, I would rather not at this point reveal
where I am sending it.

If you are desperate for my thoughts on this subject, I have written a
more narowly focused article on a related topic. This is "Long Island
Triangulated: Nineteenth-Century Maps and Charts of the U.S. Coast Survey,"
_Long Island Historical Journal_ (Spring, 1994), 191-207. This is published by
the Department of History, University at Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY
11794-4348.
