Subject: Current Contents/Geography
I did a check with my contact at ISI concerning the changes in Current
Contents outlined in Alberta's email of August 25. The geography section
has indeed been cut from CC/Social and Behavioral Sciences. Other areas
have been cut, as well, including engineering and law, apparently as the
result of a survey ISI conducted that indicated that people tended to use
other indexes, instead of CC, to get at the info for these disciplines.
Disciplines in demand by CC users, including education and nursing, had
their coverage expanded in CC, so my contact says.
These cuts do not extend to the citation indexes. Current Contents and
the 3 citation indexes are very different products, and we should see
areas like geography still being covered properly in Social Science
Citation Index and Science Citation Index. However, Current Contents may
be becoming less useful as a **multi-disciplinary** index.
