There was a major change in the way maps of the USGS are priced. Yes
all of the basic maps of the USGS are to be priced at $4.00 per sheet.
This pricing includes the thematic map series. They are also set at
$4.00. The discount is no longer the same as it was in the past. There
was a major change in the discount policy as follows.

There will be no discounts given based on volume sales. This was previously
set that the discount would be 50% for sales when the purchase was greater
than $500.00. The CURRENT DISCOUNT will be accepted for map orders
sent to the Distribution Center in Denver only.

40% is the only discount that will be given and that is only allowed
when the customer is purchasing 5 copies of the SAME MAP TITLE.

As you all should know, the Federal Government is only allowed to set prices
for the reproduction and handling of products. This recent increase was
well researched and comes 10 years after our last increase which was
implemented in 1985. The $3.50 charge you mentioned is a handling charge
and is only assessed on products that are having to be mailed.
