Subject: Help with ArcView

My comments on the difficulties of learning and using ArcView in a
library environment received quite a response from fellow sufferers and people
contemplating using ArcView. I also learned about several resources for
ArcView users, and I thought it might be useful to summarize them.

1. ESRI informed me that there is now a listserv for ArcView users. Send
"subscribe" message to [log in to unmask]

2. There is a book called Inside ArcView by Scott Hutchinson and Larry Daniel.
It is advertised in ArcNews and available from Onword Press, which has an
e-mail address: [log in to unmask] (Phone 1-800-233-6397). I have not
read this book (although I have it on order), but I have glanced at a copy,
and it appears to be very useful.

3. Several people requested my handout on working with ArcView and First
Street. I am working on a section on editing First Street files so that they
can be directly used by ArcView. When that is completed in a couple of days, I
will gladly mail out copies to all requesting them.

4. I understand that MAGERT is planning a meeting at the ALA Convention in New
York in which users of different GIS packages can sit down at separate tables
and exchange ideas and suggestions. I assume there will be a table for ArcView
users. Maybe we should form a chapter of ArcView Anonymous. One more good
reason to join the celebration in the Big Apple!
