Dear Gianluca,

i would consider it part of a preservation program.

1.photograph the maps. size of the film depends on the size
of the maps. large camera formats have the least
distortions (we use an American standard 4-inches x
5-inches/ 100 x 125 mm. negatives can be preserved as an
          archive.

2.duplicate film copies will be positive. these can be made
          into microfiche (105 x 150 mm).

          3.film scanners will digitize
          the microfiche image.

          4. selling copies of the microfiche to
other libraries will help pay for the project and provide
          security copies at multiple sites.

there is a national standard for making the microfiche. do
          you need a copy?

          sincerly,

I work for an Italian National Archives and we keep a lot of ancient
Cadastre Maps we would like to digitize somehow.
I would be useful to have them in a form that could allow some kind of
correct metrical measurement upon them.
Is there somebody who can give us any kind of advice about it?

Thanks.
