University Consortium for Geographic Information Science
1997 UCGIS SUMMER ASSEMBLY AND RETREAT
June 15 - 21, 1997
Bar Harbor, Maine
CALL FOR PAPERS, SESSIONS, AND WORKSHOPS

The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science will hold its
1997 Summer Assembly in Bar Harbor, Maine from June 15 to June 21. Two
primary goals of the meeting are to:
1. disseminate advanced knowledge on geographic information science and
technology topics among leading researchers, professors, and graduate
students in the field, and
2. identify the nation's highest priority education needs for advancing
geographic information science and develop initiatives to respond to those
needs.

This is primarily a conference by academics for academics. The assembly
will begin with a full day session devoted to identifying high priority
geographic information science education needs and creating working groups
to work on those needs throughout the week. During the remainder of the
week, morning sessions will begin with a plenary paper session followed by
working group sessions addressing high priority education issues and
concurrent paper sessions on a range of geographic information science
topics. The paper sessions will be presented by graduate students, faculty
and researchers from across the nation. Afternoon sessions will be
dedicated to attending optional advanced workshops or enjoying the
outdoors, Acadia National Park, and island life in general with fellow
attendees.

Proposals for papers are due on January 15, 1997. The call for papers and
detailed information on the assembly and retreat is available through the
UCGIS site at http://www.ucgis.org
