ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, SCIENCE & ENGINEERING REFERENCE DIVISION,
Tenure Track (three positions available).
 
Oklahoma State University is a land grant university with an
enrollment of 26,000 students on four campuses offering 44 doctoral
degree programs.  The Library, which contains more than 2.6 million
volumes and documents, is a member of the Association of Research
Libraries and the AMIGOS Bibliographic Council.  It is highly
automated with an online catalog (NOTIS) that includes Periodical
Abstracts, Newspaper Abstracts, ABI/INFORM and ISI's Current
Contents.  Searched with NOTIS commands these databases have linked
holdings to the Library's collections.  Periodical Abstracts and
ABI/INFORM are also linked to UMI's Power Pages providing full
image articles for 800+ titles.  The online catalog provides Z39.50
links to several FirstSearch databases and to other library
catalogs.  A CD-ROM network provides access to twenty full-text and
bibliographic databases.  Public Internet workstations are
available.  The Science & Engineering Reference Division includes
the Architecture and Vet Med Libraries and the Map Collection.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES ALL POSITIONS: Assists in providing reference
service including evening and weekend rotations; participates in
user education programs; and performs collection management and
faculty liaison activities in either biological sciences
disciplines (first position), physics, mathematics and chemistry
(second position), or in areas related to maps, aerial photography,
and GIS (third position).  The third position will also supervise
the Map Collection staff (1.0 FTE staff and 2.5 FTE student
assistants) and will coordinate the Library's GIS efforts in
cooperation with other campus groups.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-MLS.  Excellent communication
skills.  Ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse
backgrounds; demonstrated familiarity with print and electronic
government information resources; ability tow work well under
pressure and to meet deadlines; and a record of providing excellent
service.  Desired: Three-years post-MLS experience providing STM
reference services in an academic or large public library;
experience using the Internet in providing reference service;
library instruction experience; active participation in state or
national professional organizations; related STM degree. Course
work or experience with GIS (third position).
 
SALARY:  $25,000 to $30,000 for 11 months.  Salary and academic
rank dependent upon qualifications and prior experience.
