California State University, Chico, is seeking two  one-year Visit-
ing Assistant Professors  to replace  two faculty on leave,  begin-
ning August 1997.  A second year contract is possible, depending on
budget,  quality of performance, and departmental needs. Both posi-
tions  require the Ph.D. and evidence of teaching excellence or the
potential for such.
 
One position requires teaching G.I.S. and courses in two or more of
the following areas:  environmental impact analysis,  environmental
issues, and planning.
 
The other position requires teaching  introductory human geography,
the  historical geography of North America,  and two or more of the
following courses:  Global Economic Change  and such general educa-
tion courses as  California Cultural Landscapes, American West, and
Geography and World Affairs  (which meet University ethnic and non-
Western requirements).
 
Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae,
evidence  of teaching  excellence, and  three letters of reference.
