Friends of the NYS Newspaper Project Publishes
Collection of Civil War Maps and Letters

I Will Try to Send You All the Particulars of the Fight: Maps and Letters
from New York State's Civil War Newspapers, 1861-1863 (144 pages,
index, maps, illustrations, bibliography, brief biographies) is available
from the Friends of the NYS Newspaper Project.

The book is a collection of maps related to Civil War battles that were not
included in the major Civil War collections, including the atlas that
accompanied the official records of the Union and Confederate armies.

Each map is paired with a letter from a native New Yorker who served
his or her country during the first two years of the Civil War. The letters,
gleaned from newspapers from all across the Empire State, were
published during the conflict and were written by soldiers, sailors and
civilians. The men and women who authored them describe their
contributions to the war effort, ranging from simply remaining loyal in an
occupied city to standing in the front line of a major battle.

Included are letters that appeared in the New York Irish American, the
New York Evening Post, the New York Courier des Etats-Unis and the
Brooklyn Daily Eagle.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to microfilm
newspapers from across New York State to save the big stories and
neighborhood gossip that tell the story of the communities.

To order, send a check or money order for $22.00 ($18 plus $4 for
postage and handling) to Friends of the NYS Newspaper Project, P.O.
Box 2402, Albany, NY 12220.
