Dear Colleagues,
ENGLISH (also provided below in Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Português, and Español, as translated by Babelfish.)
To provide better services and to utilize the documents better we have provided a translation-engine with the introductory document of the Groupe des Cartothecaires Homepage (http://www.konbib.nl/kb/skd/liber/intro.htm).
The translation-engine of AltaVista provides translations from English to Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Português, and Español. You have to 'click' on the hyperlink and choose the language of your preference.
There are some restrictions and automatic options as formulated in the intro:
"The Babelfish programme gives a rough translation of the original text and cannot translate long texts. The translation will finish
somewhere in the middle of the document. The rest of the untranslated text should be transported to the Babelfish site with
cut-and-paste techniques and be translated in parts.
As soon as the translation-programme is used all documents under hyperlinks will be translated automatically, but with the same
restriction. When one wants the document in the original language the hyperlink should be activated from the original document."
I must confess that, as an international and multi-lingual organisation, we should have provided the service much earlier having a very good example in the site "Digital Map Librarianship: A working syllabus" (http://137.99.112.156/ifla/) created and maintained by Patrick McGlamery of the University of Connecticut, USA. But upkeeping the homepage is not part of the job!
I would like to provide the same service with progress reports and articles contained in our site, but as they amount to about 100 the work is too much at the moment. But we sure want to try to add this information in future.

Aber, das homepage upkeeping ist nicht Teil des Jobs! Ich möchte den gleichen
Service mit den Zwischenberichten und Artikeln versehen, die in unserer Site enthalten
wurden, aber, wie sie bis ungefähr 100 betragen, ist die Arbeit zu viel im Augenblick.
Aber wir sicher möchten versuchen, diese Informationen in der Zukunft hinzuzufügen.
