Subject: magert at ala midwinter

This message goes out to members of ALA's Map and Geography Round
Table (MAGERT).

We didn't get a MAGERT hotel for ALA midwinter this coming January in
San Antonio, but, if I remember, we decided to try to ask for the
same hotel on the regular ALA Housing Request Form. The Menger Hotel
(used by MAGERT in the past) was mentioned.

I recommend that MAGERT members immediately fax the ALA Housing
Request Form to ALA if they want to try for the Menger. It's one of
the cheapest hotels, so will be the first choice of many. I may have
already been too late, since I moved and my American Libraries took a
few extra days to get to my new house. The form really has to be
submitted asap upon receipt of AL to ensure your 1st or 2nd choice.

FYI, and with absolutely no official endorsement from MAGERT, here
are the choices I put down. I'm biased in favor of hotels in older
buildings (the first 4) and for hotels very conveniently located, so
these choices may not suit others' tastes or needs. I can't attest
to the quality of the accomodations.

1. Menger (next to the Alamo)
2. Gunter (this is the GODORT hotel, with cooperation of entire ALA,
and those of you on GOVDOC-L should have seen the notice).
3. Holiday Inn Crockett (across a side street from the Menger, behind
the Alamo)
4. Crowne Plaza St. Anthony (this and the Gunter are near each other)
5. Holiday Inn Riverwalk
