Cross posted, apologies for duplication

Hello Docs, Maps and GIS librarians

My responses to my questions were overwhelming. Several people asked that I
summarize for the lists, so here goes.

Four respondents recommended the annual conference highly. Most praised the
conference for its excellent networking potential. One person noted that
having
a lot of hands on experience with ArcView before going makes the conference
much more valuable. Another person recommended the International conference
on GIS in education. see: http://www.esri.com/industries/k-12/gisedcon.html
One other librarian found the conference not totally worthwhile.

Four respondents recommended the certified esri training, and two other
respondents
had a good experience providing onsite esri training at their institutions.
Both institutions
recommending onsite training had large turnouts.

Five respondents recommended the virtual campus, and some noted using the
virtual campus as a way of providing training to library patrons.

Many people suggested academic course work as a way for staff members to
develop GIS skills.

Other recommendations included:

Looking at the online GIS curriculum at UTexas.

Attending local and regional users groups meetings.

Subscribing to GIS4LIB:

One respondent noted that there had been a push for the State of
Virginia to obtain a statewide license for ArcView.

Johns Hopkins university has a site license for ArcView which they
use to check out to patrons temporaily.

James Boxall at Dalhousie University is developing a web course for
librarians wanting to study GIS topics.

Best regards
