Linda,
        If you are using the Maps portion of the G-schedule, and it
looks like you are, then the date comes before the item Cutter and is
part of subfield "a" of the 050.

Perhaps some experienced map catalogers could respond:
 
We have received the NIMA Vector map series on disc. Can anyone tell
me if it is the norm to catalog it with the year (1997) within the
number and not at the end: G5960 1997 .v42
 
I'm arguing with my catalog dept....
