University Libraries Government Documents, Maps, and Social Sciences

visionary individual capable of expanding the scope of the traditional
Map Collection to include digital cartographic, aerial, and remote
sensor imagery and GIS objects.



*GENERAL INFORMATION:*  Arizona State University is located in the
beautiful Phoenix metropolitan area with the nearby recreational
opportunities of California, the Colorado River Basin, the Rocky
Mountains and Mexico. This full-time Academic Professional appointment
is at the Assistant or Associate rank.  As the incumbent builds
experience at ASU through excellent job performance, professional
development and service s/he may qualify for continuing appointment
and/or promotion to higher ranks. **

*DUTIES:  *The Map/GIS Librarian is responsible for the daily operations
of the Map Collection in the Noble Science and Engineering Library.  The
position reports to the Director of the Government Documents, Maps, and
Social Sciences Services department.  Responsibilities include the
supervision of classified staff; classification and indexing of maps;
instruction and reference assistance in the use of maps and geographic
information; application of technologies, including Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), to meet users' needs; promotion of the map
collection; and collection development.**



*QUALIFICATIONS:  (Your application must specifically state your
qualifications in each of the following areas) *

*Required:*  M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program; Demonstrated
knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital spatial
data; Demonstrated knowledge of maps in traditional formats and
cartographic information in digital form.

*Preferred:* Supervisory experience; Advanced degree in geography,
cartography, or related fields; Experience working in an academic or
research library; Knowledge or experience with U.S. Federal Depository
cartographic materials; Knowledge or experience with cataloging or
classification and indexing of maps or archival materials; Demonstrated
ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and library users;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.



*SALARY** RANGE**:*  $43,000 minimum, dependent upon qualifications and
experience.
