GIS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY/COMPUTER CENTRE
 
University College Cork has a vacancy for a GIS Development Officer who will
work with the Department of Geography and the Computer Centre in promoting
the development of GIS within the University. We are looking for a self-
motivated and hard working person with GIS support and information analysis
skills to make a substantial contribution to the growth and development of
our GIS division. The successful applicant should ideally be:
 
7 Educated to degree level with a Masters training or professional
qualification
  in GIS and/or relevant experience in the private or public sector.
 
7 Involved in the development and support of new systems to answer
increasingly
  complex research questions.
 
7 Familiar with interfacing of peripheral devices locally and on a network
 
7 Knowledge of operating systems - Windows (including NT), DOS, UNIX.
 
7 Capable in both user account management and data-base management.
 
7 Familiar with the concepts of major GIS software.
 
7 Working knowledge of at least one programming language.
 
The appointee will have good interpersonal skills and work as part of a team
providing a wide range of services in support of the teaching and research
activities of the Department and the University which involve flexibility and
liaison with other members of staff.
 
Salary IR#21,500 (Euro 27,299) - IR#26,000 (Euro 33,013). A one-year contract
will be offered in the first instance, when the position will be reviewed.
