A new book on portolan charts as been published. It contains a new
approach to the origin and evolution of the nautical medieval mapping
before 1470. The study analyzes almost the whole existing charts of that
period, preserved in institutions and private collections over the
world. A new and interesting text of 526 pages in Catalan language with
translation into English, with a lot of illustrations is complemented
with a DVD which contains 330 images at high resolution reproducing 70
portolan charts as well as 40 atlases dated until the end of the 15th
century. The foreword is signed by Tony Campbell. The citation is:

Pujades, Ramon: /Portolan Charts: The Medieval Representation of a
Ploughed Sea/. Barcelona: Institut CartogrĂ fic de Catalunya; Institut
d’Estudis Catalans, Institut d’Estudis de la Mediterrà nia, 2007.
