I thought someone might be interested in geographic-related job openings
that our agency is working to fill.  All three of the jobs listed below will
be onsite in the Seattle, Washington area.  I'm with a temporary placement
agency.  We are a primary vendor for one of the world's largest software
companies.  I've put info about applying  for these jobs at the end of this
posting.

Contract Geographer / Transportation Data Lead
Project duration: six months +.  Hourly rate negotiable.
 
Insure the timely delivery, accuracy, and authority of the transportation
class
of geographic data to a number of software products. This includes
but is not limited to roads, routeable road networks, railroads, ferries,
air
routes, etc.  The person will lead the effort to create the systems and
procedures
used by a geo-modeling data team to deliver reliable, high quality
geographic
data and information.
 
Qualifications:
 
Three years experience in transportation geography. The candidate should
have
successfully completed a digital cartography project that required the
integration
of multiple data formats from a variety of disparate sources.  Solid
knowledge of
geography, geographic/cartographic design principles and techniques,
experience
with cartographic compilation and familiarity with digital spatial data.  MA
or MS
in Geography or related field required. Experience may be a substitute for
education
in specific cases.
 
Software that will be used: the Arc/Info Geographic Information System
(GIS),
including most modules, AML, the Arc/Info Network module, dynamic
segmentation and address matching.  INFO and SQL relational databases.
UNIX and Windows environments.  Experience with Microsoft Access and at
least one
programming language would be a real plus: UNIX shell scripts, Perl, C or
C++, or
Visual Basic.

Contract Data Acquisition and Archivist
Duration: six months+  Hourly rate negotiable.
 
Build a high quality, detailed, geographic reference collection that meets
the needs
of a software development team working on geographic multimedia consumer
software.
Will construct a variable scale paper map, book reference and digital
geographic data
collection with a world-wide scope.  This archivist should also create a
long-term plan
to build the library into a core company asset.  Accompanying the plan
should be a budget
 -aware purchasing schedule which reflects product priorities.This person
will also work
with field geographers,. as well as.translate a variety of formats into
Arc/Info format.
 
Qualifications:
 
Must be have an ALA accredited MLS or equivalent.  Must also be familiar
with OCLC
and MARC-MAP cataloguing systems.  Must be team-oriented,  have the ability
to
use Windows Office software, and interest in GIS browsing software, database
software,
Internet searching, and Web site creation.
 
Software that will be used: the Arc/Info Geographic Information System

Contract Geodata Proofers (3 positions)
Duration: six months +
 
Systematically examine map content for accuracy and precision.
Map content will be proofed using Arc/Info or Arc/View. Proofers will find
and log
bugs, research each bug and enter data into bug database. Check each
succeeding
product  build to ensure the problems are remedied.
 
Qualifications:
B.A. in Geography.  Keen eye for detail. Successful candidates
will pass a proofing test. Proficiency with MS Access or
another relational database.  Thorough understanding of multimedia
software development.  Six months work experience with Arc/Info or
another GIS software package.
