Founded in 1941, the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Geography and Map Section is the oldest continuous professional organization for geography and map librarians.  Sixty-six years later, annual meetings are still taking place, with the Mary Murphy paper session and discussions of topics important to special librarians.  Please find the agenda for the meeting being held June 3-7, 2007 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver below:

Abstract:
Join the Social Science Division, Thomson Scientific & Dialog  Inc. as we "Climb to New Heights" and target health, energy and exercise while at the 2007 conference.  At the opening of the INFO EXPO Hall, Social Science Division members and Dialog will kick-off this event with registration and distribution of pedometers to all interested SLA members.  Rack up your walking miles during the week and report your results to qualify for both the daily and grand prizes.

Abstract: You’ve heard about ontologies and semantic searching, but what are they?  Who is using these cutting-edge tools to make searching easier? How do these search tools differ from a tried and true Boolean search?  A clear, plain language look at the topic will enable members of the audience to try out ontology-building.   In addition, we’ll look at how these technologies are being used to search structured data, and employ latent semantic indexing.

PLEASE NOTE that the 2008 SLA annual conference will not be held at its usual time.  It will be July 27 - 30, 2008 in Seattle, Washington.  Mark you calendar now for this important meeting.  The 2009 annual conference will be in Washington, D.C., June 14 - 17, 2009, and will mark the 100th anniversary of the Special Libraries Association!!
