Senior Maps Cataloger
Library Specialist II
Position Number 174
Minimum Salary: 33,600

The Library of Virginia is seeking a Senior Maps Cataloger in the
Technical Services Branch of the Collection Management Services
Division. The incumbent will catalog cartographic materials from the
Library's broad collection of more than 47,000 maps by applying a
professional knowledge of national standards and local practice;
organize the cycle of conservation, cataloging, processing, and housing
for all cartographic materials in the Library and serves as liaison to
other agency units to address map issues. The incumbent will also assist
with special projects.

Job Qualifications

*       Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school
required.
*       Recent cataloging experience and experience in library technical
services required.
*       Experience in working with maps preferred.
*       Considerable knowledge of cataloging, AACR2, LCSH, LC
classification, NACO and authority control.
*       Considerable knowledge of standard library operating procedures,
and automated library systems.
*       Considerable knowledge of technical processing, bibliographic
utilities, and library physical processing and preservation guidelines.
*       Knowledge of cartographic materials and processing, cataloging
rules and the MARC format for maps and atlases.
*       Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff at all
levels, to organize workflow, and to work independently and
collaboratively.
*       Demonstrated ability to perform highly detailed work, to lead
teams and to build consensus.
*       Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
*       Must pass a security background check.
