Heading West: Mapping the Territory opens tomorrow, Friday, March 9, 2001.
Some 175 maps, atlases, photographs and views from NYPL collections,
primarily from the Map Division, illustrate the mapping of the American
West, from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The exhibit will be on view
until May 19, 2001.

Information and sample images from the exhibit, including a complete
list of items on display, and information about the accompanying book---may
all be seen on the NYPL website under Events & Exhibitions at
www.nypl.org

There is a complementary exhibit, Touring West, about the theater and
opera and other performing artists who travelled west, which runs from
April 6-July 7. Both are featured in the book in alternating chapters.

Enjoy, and come on up and see us some time. The exhibit is open
Monday-Saturday 10-6, except 11-6 on Tues and Wed. The Map Division is open
Tues-Saturdays, and we are located in Room 117, down the hall from the
exhibit.
